Making packed lunches is the bane of my life.  However the upshot is that I can ensure my children get their intake of fruit and vegetables, and that they have some scrummy delights (which are also health conscious).  So I persevere and the kids have a lunch box every day.

In times gone by I have been guilty of making plain lunch boxes,  with a cheese sandwich, packet of crisps, apple, yogurt, and a biscuit.

But with a change to a paleo lifestyle, and a desire to ensure the kids have a healthy approach to food, I have had to change. And my committment to the Organics #nojunk challenge  has helped me source some new ideas to make lunch boxes exciting, creativity and most of all tasty.

If you want to get involved in feeding your family less junk then sign the No Junk pledge here.  Then read on for some great ideas of how to create some clean, healthy lunch boxes.

Jenny from MummyMishaps shows how to make food fun, and healthy for kids, whilst still having some no junk treats.  The carrot and cucumber sandwich toppers are awesome, and I know my son would adore opening up a lego lunch.

The talented chef Helen, from The Crazy Kitchen offers inspiration to make lunches more than just a sandwich and crisps.  She shares a recipe for mini cheese and tomato muffins, which all three of my kids adore (one does remove the tomato – but hey, we are hopeful that one day…)

It contains all natural ingredients and for the more culinary inclined amongst us, you can even make them with the kids..

Nojunk but not breaking the bank

If you are keen to the rubbish out of your children’s lunch box, but are concerned about the cost of giving them good, clean food.  Then you need to visit The Diary of a Frugal Family to get some budget ideas which still offer great nutrition for the family.

Her quick and simple sandwich fillings are easy to use to liven up your sandwich box, and she offers some great replacement savoury ideas that cost nothing to make or buy.

No junk – Not just for kids.

As soon as school starts up I plan on making some of these scrummy looking pea and ham fritters, another great alternative to sandwiches.

I reckon some of these may find their way into my work lunch box as well…

And if they don’t grace my lunch box, this summer salad from Romanian Mum will definitely be coming with me to work.  It just looks irresistably health.
